Methodology
The goal is not to relearn everything, but to be able to switch from simplified to traditional writing and vice versa.
To do this, study the traditional characters just like the simplified ones, but after finishing the unit in simplified characters.
To optimize memorization, pay particular attention to the structure and components of the character.
Then do the traditional-character practice exercise. Its aim is to train you to switch from simplified to traditional through simple formative exercises.
Finally, move on to studying the summary text / dialogue, following these steps:
- You should be able to read it aloud and understand it. This is the first step: reading trains your reading comprehension. Reading aloud trains your pronunciation. (Different languages don't exercise the same muscles of your vocal apparatus, so you need to train them to pronounce Mandarin Chinese correctly.)
- The next exercise consists of copying out the Chinese text and translating it into English, without looking at the translation. This exercise is fairly easy, but it trains your writing and embeds Chinese sentence structures through kinaesthetic (movement) memory.
- The last exercise consists of writing in Chinese from the English — the hardest of all. When you can do it without mistakes, the "traditional writing" section can be considered complete.
