Note: when a translation of a character is in brackets, this means that this character cannot be used alone. This does not mean that it has no meaning, just as the roots of words in our Western languages.

māo : cat

Components: mythical animal, grass, field.
miáo "seedling" is here the phonetic element.
hòu : (behind, after)

Stroke order:

Components: one step with the left foot, silk, go.

There are two traditional characters for "in": used in Taiwan and used in Hong Kong. In reality, the two characters are composed of + the component of the garment, on the left and split in two, above and below . In this course, we will mainly use the Taiwan variant .
